Developed the electronics and firmware for a battery operated handheld spectrometer that produces a full “visible” spectrum of a liquid, which is up-loadable to a custom PC application for further analysis and processing.
Context
This customer came to BCA to develop the electronics and firmware for a handheld, miniaturized full-spectrum measurement system based on a custom designed imaging chip.
Solution
BCA jointly developed the requirements with the customer and an industrial design partner. These criteria included cost goals and battery life requirements. The electronics was partitioned into a custom designed ARM7 based processor board, which also included a custom LCD, membrane keypad, and USB full speed interface and a separate custom optics board.
Bay Computer created the device user interface and designed, coded, and tested all of the device firmware. We were also responsible for supporting or performing all regulatory activities leading to a CE mark, as well as the design’s introduction into manufacturing. This included the electronics, test firmware, and PC application design of a custom test fixture based on national instruments test stand.
We were also responsible for development and execution of the product and applications system test plan and development of the user manual.
